The Civic City Parks and Recreation Department offers several ways for teens to volunteer and earn community service hours. For information on a variety of volunteer opportunities with the city and local non-profit organizations, call Volunteer Services at 510-790-6754. You will find many choices for you or your group.
The goal of the Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) is to be the voice of the teen community. They identify teen issues and address the City Council. The city officials envision a better tomorrow by viewing today's teenagers as a valuable resource.
Applications are submitted to the YAC for review each quarter or as needed. The YAC will recommend candidates to the City Council for final consideration and appointment. Recommendations occur in the late spring for the upcoming school year, or as necessary throughout the year. Terms of office are two years.
All Civic City teens who wish to make a difference are encouraged to apply. To get an application or for further information, please contact YAC Advisor / Recreation Supervisor at 785-494-4344.
